Abstract

342,716. Casting-machines. EGLER, A. G., 457, Francesca Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio, U.S.A. Nov. 1, 1929, No. 33295. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1928. [Class 83 (i).] In casting ingots the metal is poured into a a mould and jarred from the beginning of, throughout pouring and until the non-metallic inclusions have been brought to the top. The moulds C, Fig. 5, are carried by trucks B, running on rails 5 which are secured to a table 4 supported by girders 2 separated by a distance equal to the standard gauge. If the track is narrower than standard, extra girders 6, Fig. 2, are fixed below the rails. Shoes 7 with wearing pieces 8 are fixed to the girders 2 and engaged by cams 10, preferably of manganese steel, on shafts 13, preferably of chrome-vanadium steel, each driven through an adjustable worm wheel 19 and worm 41 on a shaft 26 which is driven through gearing by a motor 15. Each cam makes one revolution per second and has a circular face except for two diametrically opposed ¢" projections each extending over one-twelfth the circumference and formed by tangents, with the meeting point rounded off. The cams are slipped loosely upon octagonal portions of the shafts 13 between bearings 16 having a grease pocket 116. The table 4 is provided with manholes and the gearing is enclosed in casings 23, 32. Specification 303,157, [Class 83 (i), Casting &c. metals], is referred to.
