Abstract

In the production of artificial zeolites by reaction between an acid or alkaline solution of amphoteric metal hydroxide and a soluble silicate or a colloidal solution of silicic acid with production of a major- or full-volume gel, the reaction mixture is maintained at a pH value above 7 but not exceeding 8,4 during the reaction. For instance sodium or potassium silicate may be reacted with aluminium sulphate or acetate, chromium sulphate, or iron salts, or with sodium aluminate. Acids such as sulphuric, acetic, or carbonic acids, or alkalies or alkaline materials such as caustic soda, alkaline-earth metal hydroxides, alkali or alkaline-earth metal carbonates or bicarbonates, may be added to control the pH value of the reaction mixture. The products are dried at 50-100 DEG C., with or without prior removal of mother liquor by exudation, drainage, or pressing. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 313,206, [Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic.].
