Abstract
342,234. Transmission lines. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Hawley, K. A. ; P.O. Box A, Maryland Trust Building, Baltimore, U.S.A.) May 21, 1930, No. 15655. Convention date, May 21, 1929. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iv).] The metallic supports of the insulators of high tension conductors on a wooden pole line are bonded together and fuses are interposed in the bonding connections. All may be connected to a common point and this point may be connected to the metallic support or supports of the earth or static wire or wires or, by a fuse, to the grounding wire, which is disposed away from the pole, or to both. The stay wires are insulated by insulators of the wood stick type having a greater puncture and leakage distance than the goose-egg type. On the occurrence of a discharge between conductors, or to ground, fuses blow and the insulation resistance of the wooden structure is interposed to stop the discharge. The normal presence of the bonding connection prevents the ignition of the pole by leakage current over dirty insulators. The fuses used are preferably of the expulsion type.
