Description
Protective arrangement against earth faults for electrical, single-pole earthed Heating resistors of rail vehicles using weakly insulated auxiliary wires When installing electrical heating resistors -in railroad cars and the like in most cases one end of the heating winding directly to earth, while the the other end is connected to the voltage via a fuse or an overcurrent switch will. If an earth fault now occurs near the earthing point, the normal current strength increases, which, however, is not able to initiate the shutdown of the radiator, so that at this earth fault a slow burning of all parts occurs, whereby a fire in the car becomes possible. This error - is eliminated in such a way, that you have an insulating auxiliary conductor in a similar way as you have already done with cables laid next to the resistor, the insulation of which against the resistor is low. If an error then occurs in the heating resistor, it will not generate any current until then one end of the leading voltage wire is connected to earth. The other The end lies above a switching coil on the network. The switching coil receives voltage as a result and causes the radiator to switch off directly or indirectly. In the drawing a denotes the radiator, b an off switch, c the one that is guided along the radiator Voltage wire, the switching coil. Step on the point marked with a cross If an earth fault occurs, the insulation of c will also be damaged at this point. A current goes from b via the switching coil d, the voltage wire c to earth; the Switching coil responds and opens switch b, which shuts down the radiator n takes place.
