[Class 64 (i).] In heating-apparatus wherein cold liquid is pressure-fed from a pipe 13 through a valve 14 into a heating-tank 10 thereby forcing hot liquid out from the top of the tank, in order to prevent dripping from the outlet, after supply has been stopped, owing to expansion of the liquid being heated, an open chamber 12 is fitted to the outlet pipe 16, 19 to retain the displaced liquid. The outlet pipe is in the form of a siphon preferably enclosed in the chamber 12, and communicating therewith near its entrance through the bottom, by means of holes 18. On opening valve 14, hot liquid from tank 10 fills chamber 12 and siphons out of delivery pipe 19. On closing valve 14, the contents of chamber 12 are siphoned off, any liquid subsequently displaced from tank 10 owing to expansion, being received in chamber 12. In lieu of the holes 18, a nozzle may be fitted under the open end of the siphon (Fig. 3, not shown), whereby the chamber 12 is emptied by an injector action simultaneously with the delivery of hot liquid. Or the nozzle 20 may be arranged at the top of the siphon with an additional tube 21 extending towards the bottom of the chamber 12.
