Oct. 17, 1929, No. 31586. Addition to 322,534, [Class 38 (ii), Electric currents, Converting &c.]. [Class 135.] In order to relieve the pressure due to oil expansion in an oil-filled cable, expansion chambers of the type described in the parent Specification are connected to the oil passages in the cable. In the embodiment shown, the expansion chamber comprises a tank 1 having a pipe 3 for connection to the cable and a gauge glass 8 for indicating the level 7 of the oil in the tank. The space 9 above the oil is filled with a gas or vapour, such as carbon dioxide, which is easily absorbed by a material 5 when the gas pressure increases. The material 5, which may consist of coke or charcoal, is supported in a container 4 suspended from the top of the tank 1.
