452,864. Transformers ; pressure - relieving devices. ROWBOTHAM, J. L., BILLIG, E., and HACKBRIDGE ELECTRIC CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., Hersham, Waltonon-Thames. Jan. 26, 1935, No. 2678. [Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XXIX] In oil-immersed transformers, the tank is placed in communication with one or more rigid-walled expansion chambers sealed from communication with the atmosphere and containing a gas. Fig. 9 shows an arrangement in which expansion chambers 4 are formed on opposite side walls of the tank 1 and communicate with the oil in the tank through openings 7. Fig. 11 shows an alternative arrangement in which three expansion chambers 4 are located within the tank 1 above and below the transformer 9, these chambers communicating with the oil in the tank through openings 6. In other forms the expansion chambers may be entirely open at the bottom, or they may communicate with the oil through an upwardly curved pipe extending from their lower ends. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 322,534, [Class 38 (ii)], and 413,702, [Group XXXVII].
