Abstract
341,361. Solidifying carbon dioxide. AKT. - GES. FœR KOHLENS€UREINDUSTRIE, 61, Mauerstrasse, Berlin. April 25, 1930, No. 12864. Convention date, April 27, 1929. [Class 8 (ii).] Liquid carbon dioxide is allowed to expand at a pressure well above the freezing pressure in an enclosed space c along the sides of a block of carbon dioxide ice which is thus increased in size. At starting the liquid is allowed to flow into the space from a pipe b while valves f, k are fully open. The liquid forms snow which collects on a sieve or plate d, which may however be omitted if the outlet e is wide enough to avoid obstruction. The valve k is then closed so as to maintain 20 atmospheres pressure by which the liquid is forced around the sides of the solid and compresses it. A part only of the block formed may be sawn off, a block being formed from the remainder.
