Abstract
341,309. Vehicle luggage racks. LINDBERG, K. K., Sundbyberg, and PERSSON, C. E., 16, Atlasmuren, Stockholm, both in Sweden. Feb. 14, 1930, No. 5052. [Class 103 (ii).] A combined folding trunk and luggage carrier for motor vehicles has hinged sides, bottom and lid. In one form, a frame 1 provided with a rear wall 2 is pivotally connected to the vehicle and carries the bottom 6, the lid 3, and the sides 4 which in turn carry the other side 5 of the folding trunk. The sides 4 and the bottom 6 are centrally hinged to facilitate their being folded into the frame 1. The bottom 6 is corrugated as indicated in Fig. 4 and in order to maintain the box rigid, flanges on the bottom fit into laps 8 formed on the lower edges of the sides. When folded the lid 3 closes the frame 1. A water and dust-proof bag, hinged to the cover or to the pivot of the hinges, is suspended inside the trunk. The lid 3 engages with, and compresses, when closed, an elastic member 12, Fig. 7, thus sealing the bag. When required to function as a luggage carrier, the box is folded and the frame 1 is brought into an horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 3.
