Abstract
582,676. Boxes. KARPELES, O. Aug. 23, 1944, No. 16092. [Class 18] A box 11 is provided with a hinged lid 22 and a slide 27 interconnected so that operation of the slide raises the lid. The hinge 23, arranged transversely between two walls 13 and 14 of the box, is positioned near one edge of the lid so that a narrow strip of the lid overhangs the hinge, and the slide 22 is mounted in the bottom of the box so as to extend through the front wall 15 and has a strip of fabric or other flexible material connected to it and to the narrow strip of the lid so that when the slide is pulled out the lid is raised. The slide may also form a clasp 30 for securing the lid in a closed position. In one arrangement, an inner container 12 is secured within a casing 11 so as to provide a space between the rear walls 20 and 16. The lid is hingedly supported upon the rear wall 20 of the inner container, by means of a fabric strip 23, and the slide 27 is mounted between the bottom 24 of the inner container and the base 25 of the casing. A mirror may be provided in the lid 22.
