Abstract

340,418. Switching systems; charging batteries. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Axtell, C. J. ; Y.M.C.A., Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Jan. 15, 1930, No. 1453. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1929. [Class 38 (iv).] An electric circuit is connected to a circuit subject to reversals of polarity by means ensuring a defined polarity. The windings 25, 26 of two electromagnetic reversing switches are respectively connected to the supply circuit 11, 12 through reversely connected oneway discharge devices 27, 29 and a battery 10 to be charged is appropriately connected between the contacts 14, 15 of the reversing switches. The discharge devices may be electrolytic cells having any suitable combination of metals in an electrolyte such as aluminium or tantalum for anodes and tin, lead, &c., for cathodes ; or they may be vacuum tubes, oxide film or other devices. The switches 14, 15 are not necessarily electromagnetic. For example, they may be pneumatically operated by valves controlled by the windings 25, 26.
