Abstract

340,320. Gravity-separation apparatus. SCHULTE, J., 242, Alfredstrasse, Essen, Ruhr, Germany. Sept. 27, 1929, No. 29386. [Class 46.] An apparatus for separating the constituents of emulsions and suspensions comprises a tank 12 having a number of inclined parallel plates 13 disposed therein and in which supply ports 16 are located between one or more pairs of the inclined plates at such a height above the lower edges thereof that the heavier material sinks towards the lower plate of the pair and the lighter material rises and passes upward on the underside of the upper plate of the pair. The heavier material is drawn off through a pipe 14 while the lighter material passes over an adjustable weir 17 into a trough 18 and leaves through an overflow 15. The supply ports 16 are connected to a supply pipe 10 which may be made adjustable in a vertical direction so that the ports 16 may be brought nearer the lower or upper surfaces of the plates 13.
