Abstract
696,300. Separating mixtures of liquids and solids. FLOATEX SEPARATIONS, Ltd. Dec. 5, 1951 [Dec. 13, 1950], No. 30485/50. Class 46 [Also in Group II] In apparatus for feeding two sand cones, i.e. apparatus usually of inverted conical form in which a suspension of sand in water is separated from the major part of the water, the sand collecting in the cone being continuously or periodically discharged through a valve at the bottom while the excess water overflows continuously from the top, a tank 2 is divided into two compartments 5, 6 by a partition 4 extending from below the normal water level to the bottom, the two sand cones being fed from the bottoms of the respective compartments, and the tank 2 is so arranged that all the suspension of sand in water is fed to one compartment 5 and all but that passed to the respective cone flows into the next compartment 6 over the partition 4. A boiling box 3 attached at one end to the tank 2 receives the suspension of sand in water and passes it through an opening 7 to compartment 5. A launder 8 at the opposite end of the tank receives the silt and water overflowing a weir plate 14 and passes it to a pipe 9. A restrictor 15, wedgeshaped in a plane at right angles to the Figure, is movable in the outlet at the bottom of compartment 5, the restrictor being suspended from a cross channel 16 by two screw-threaded rods 17. A similar restrictor 18 mounted on one end controls the outlet from compartment 6. The partition 4 and weir plate 14 may be fixed or hinged about their bases or may be of adjustable height. According to the Provisional Specification the second compartment is considerably narrower than the first and a .throttle member is only provided in the pipe from the second compartment.
