Abstract

339,666. Inventions Developments, Ltd., Mongiardino, J. F., and Turner, W. J. Aug. 14, 1929. Surface carburettors.-The carburettor com. prises two portions 2, 3 bolted together, the part 3 containing an air strangler 16, and the part 2 enclosing a diffuser body 1 covered, with gauze or other fuel-retaining material 11 to which fuel is fed from float chamber 8 through duct 7, central bore 5 and radial passages 9. From each of these passages 6, air ducts 17 lead to the lower end of the diffuser, the ends of the ducts being nearly perpendicular to the direction of air flow. The fuel-retaining material is secured by rings of wire in. grooves 12, 15 on the body 1. A choke tube 18 intensifies the depression around the outlets of the passages 9, such outlets being larger than the passages to produce rupture of any films that may form and prevent siphon action. Into the upper end of the bore 5 is screwed a pilot nipple 20 the orifice of which discharges into a tube 29 carried by an axially adjustable tube 26 in a thickened portion 22 of the carburettor wall. An aperture 28 in tube 29 registers with a duct 23 leading to the engine side of the throtle valve 10. The tube 29 is secured by a screw 25, and the quantity of slow-running mixture is controlled by a screw 30. As a modificatian a horizontal carburettor is described, the fuel after leaving passages 9 flowing turbulently to large apertures covered with fuel-retaining material. Specifications 170,074 and 198,350 are referred to.
