Abstract

339,374. Thompson Water Tube Boilers, Ltd., J., and Partridge, H. E. Sept. 16,1929. Ashpits.-In furnaces burning pulverized fuel or furnaces using gas or oil and solid fuel, the ashpit is provided with one or more passages in the side wall for directing a current of air towards the path of the falling ashes for cooling purposes and to direct them towards the discharge outlet of the ashpit. As shown in Fig. 1, air is supplied from conduits 13 through valvecontrolled ducts 14 to the hollow casing 5 of the ashpit from which it passes through passages 9 in tubular blocks 8 having their inner ends arranged in steps. Partitions are provided in the hollow casing to form compartments to and from which the air passes. The ashpit may be inclined on one, two or more sides downwardly and inwardly towards the discharge opening 3.
