Abstract

Funnels.-In making funnels from sheet-metal plates on both sides with layers of plastic material capable of resisting corrosion and of being vulcanized or otherwise hardened. all or part of the edges of the plates to be joined are freed from the plastic material and then united together by welding, folding, &c., and these united edges are then coated on both sides with strips of unhardened plastic material which are united with the main coatings by a pressing or vulcanizing process preferably in a vacuum. The drum body shown in Figs. 2 and 3 is formed from a single sheet of metal, the abutting edges 2 being freed from the covering material 3 and welded together; the edges 27 of the covering material are pressed to concave form and strips 28, 29 of coating material with complementaryshaped edges are placed in the gaps between the edges 27 and consolidated with the layers 3 by an eccentric press in a vacuum.
