Abstract
339,237. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Coulson, B. P.). June 14, 1929, [Convention date]. Mercury boilers.-In boilers of the kind described in Specification 319,220, each tube comprises an outer tube 15 with a tubular core 16 spaced therefrom by ribs 18 and projections 19. The core may comprise two welded tubes spaced at the top by a disc 22a, and forming between them a dead, heat-insulating-space. A block 23 is arranged above the core, and has a passage 25 in communication with the bore 20 of the cone and provided with a funnel shaped opening 26. The block 23 has spaced slots 27 and downwardlysloping partitions 28 which form sloping passages 29 through the block. A cone-shaped cap 32 with an opening 33 is provided above the extension of tube 15. Liquid mercury passes from the drum to the tubes through lateral passages therein. The drum is provided with filler blocks 35 having mercury passages 36 and recesses for the tubes. A perforated separator 39 is arranged above the tubes. Mercury particles carried by the vapour strike the caps 32 and drop into the tunnels 26. The vapour discharged from the tubes cannot interfere with the flow of liquid to the cores, and mercury is supplied to the tubes from a level below the mercury surface in the drums.
