Abstract

339,040. Dean, H. P., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. Oct. 4, 1929. Hydrogenation, destructive.-In the destructive hydrogenation of liquid carbonaceous materials the hydrogen is passed into the reaction chamber through an indirect heat exchanger surrounded by the material. The heat exchanger may consist of a number of vertical tubes 5, Fig. 1, between headers; the hydrogen pipe on either side of the heat exchanger is covered with heat insulating material 6. The hydrogen pipe 7, Fig. 2, may be bent into a spiral 8. The heat exchanger may be made of, or coated with, catalytic material. Specifications 308,995 and 309,258 are referred to.
