Abstract

337,296. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., (Du Pont de Nemours & Co., E. I.). Jan. 25, 1930. Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is obtained by heating furfural under pressure in the presence of hydrogen, a nickel catalyst, and water. A temperature of 50-150‹ C. and a pressure of 100 lb. per sq. in. are suitable. 'The catalyst is preferably obtained by the partial reduction of precipitated nickel chromate.
