Abstract

329,045. Tate, W. R., Stephenson, H. F., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1929. Hydrogenation, destructive.-In the destructive hydrogenation of carbonaceous materials in a high pressure converter, the hydrogen is heated by passing it through a jacket 3 on the inside of the wall 1 of the converter, then through a coil 5 in heat exchange with the vaporous products of the reaction passing off through a pipe 7 and finally by passage over an electric heater 9. the hydrogen being discharged into the carbonaceous materials by a pipe 10. The vapours produced are condensed in a condenser 14 and collected in a receiver 15. The liquid reaction products are withdrawn through a pipe 13 and exchange heat with the initial materials introduced through a pipe 11 in a heat exchanger 12. The hydrogen is heated in the jacket to 100<‹> C., in the exchanger 5 to 300‹ and by the heater 9 to 500‹. The heat exchangers 5 and 12 may also be situated inside the converter. Specification 326,238 is referred to.
