Abstract
338,864. Freyssinet, E., and Seailles, J. Oct. 2, 1928, [Convention date]. Centrifugal machines.-In making reinforcedconcrete articles such as posts, girders, plates, railway sleepers, gutters, fences and panels erected or employed after setting and hardening, reinforcing members of high tensile steel are used and are tensioned while in the mould, so that in the finished article the concrete is under initial compression and the reinforcing members are under initial tension. The reinforcing bars may be anchored in a fixed frame and tensioned by hooks acting through tension indicators d<1>, d<2>. Anchoring stops 3 - - 6 are provided on the bars, which transmit the tension to the concrete when the latter has set. The bars may be heated when in the mould, as by electric current, so that they may be tensioned when at normal temperature. A series of parallel sided or tapering moulds may be' placed end to end and the moulded article severed into the required portions after setting. A centrifugal mould c, Fig. 7, for moulding a pipe may be provided with hydraulic jacks VI, 2, 3 which tension the bars 17. Wedges or stop pins may be inserted to retain the bars in a state of tension in order that the tensioning apparatus may be disengaged. The bars may be tensioned by cams, wedge levers or screw and nut gear, and may be anchored by external plates.
