Folding and like umbrellas.-The upper and lower sections 18, 19 of the ribs are connected by hinges 21, and hinge pins 27 at the end of the stretchers 25 engage in slots 28 in the sections 19, the arrangement being such that the operation of collapsing causes the lower sections to fold alongside the upper sections and allows the stretchers to telescope with the lower sections, as shown in Fig. 2. The stick is in sections 1, 2, 3 which telescope, the sections 2, 3 being hollow. The sections 2, 3 are held in place in the open position by tapering pins 6 in a plug 5 in the section 2, which pins are pressed outwardly into tapering apertures in the section 3 by a spring 8. In the closed position the pins engage apertures 15. The sections 1, 2 are held in place by a similar arrangement of pins 11.
