[Class 134.] In collapsable umbrellas having a telescopic main stick 8, 10, and divided outwardly foldable ribs 20, 22, and wherein struts 19 engage the inner rib sections 20, so that a sleeve 16 moves as in an ordinary umbrella, the collapsed umbrella is adapted to be pulled into a hollow rigid handle 1 of approximately the length of one-half of that of the ribs so as just to accommodate the entire collapsed structure, and the stick section 10 carries at its lower end a piston 3 guided in movement within the handle 1. The sections 8, 10 are looked in the open position by a pawl 11, and the sleeve 16 by a pawl 13, and the piston 3 carries a spring button 5 to hold it at the top or bottom of the handle. The sleeve 16 is of such a diameter that when the -stick sections are telescoped, the section 8 penetrates into it and automatically unlocks the pawl 13 so that the ribs are collapsed. The outer rib sections 22 are then folded upwards and the collapsed umbrella is drawn into the handle, the button 5 being guided by a rib 2 which may be spiral in order automatically to roll the umbrella on closing. Shoes 23 are provided at the rib joints to prevent the sections 22 from tipping downwards.
