Abstract

336,712. Sanchez, S. Feb. 28, 1929, [Convention date]. Controlling consuming devices.-A system for the automatic illumination of aerodromes, motor-ways and highways incorporates a photoelectric cell B, Fig. 1, adapted to close the lighting circuit F through relays C, D, E, when activated by light rays. In Fig. 2, the photoelectric cell is located inside the neon beacon triangle A, of an aerodrome, and is activated by a flare or bengal light from an aeroplane desiring to land, thus switching on the lamps G which are arranged to give parallel beams as shown. Neon angle tubes H are arranged horizontally at each corner at a height of 5 metres above ground level to give the pilot his approximate height when landing. In Fig. 3, photo-electric cells A, arranged at intervals along a highway &c., are energized by a side light on a vehicle and switch on a bank of overhead lamps K illuminating a section of road ahead, the lamps being extinguished after a period sufficient for the vehicle to pass the section.
