Abstract
402,049. Road signals for controlling traffic. SNICK, C. L. VAN, 20, Rue Joseph Jacquet, Brussels. Feb. 19, 1932, No. 5070. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 20, 1932]. [Class 118 (ii).] A line of hollow blocks embedded in the road are adapted to be uillminated for the control of traffic. Fig. 1 shows a road 1 crossing a main road 2 close to a double track railway line 3, 4 having a level crossing 5, the luminous blocks being disposed level with the ground at the points 7, 8, 11. Similar blocks at points 13, 14, 15 warn the train driver of his approach to the signal 6. Each block comprises a box 16 with a screwed metal cap 20 having ribs 23, 24 and a slot 27 to receive advertising panels. A thick lens 30 having four projections entering the openings 22 in the cap 20 is held fast by a screwed ring 33 having holes 36 for the escape of water. A screw 38 locks the head of the box in position. A lamp 39 and reflector 40 are arranged inside the box. A preliminary warning of change of signal is given by extinguishing or lighting a few of the blocks in the line. Automatic means may be provided for the periodic change of signals.
