468,436. Lamps for lighting roads, aerodromes, wharves, &c. SAFE-BEAM LAMP, Ltd., and LUND, W. H. Dec. 2, 1935, No. 33357. [Class 75 (iv)] A road, aerodrome, wharf or similar surface is illuminated substantially uniformly and without dazzle by means of one or more light projectors g mounted within a cabinet, casing, or the like e, and projecting one or more flattopped focused beams below eye level, through one or more windows which are of distinctive outline or shape, and /or colour, the interior of the cabinet being generally illuminated, for the purpose of rendering the windows distinctively visible, by means of a reflector k which co-operates with stray light from the projectors and/or light from a separate source l. The cabinet may be weather proof and its interior may be painted white. Each projector may be mounted on a universal joint m and preferably comprises one or more parabolic reflectors fitted with an electric light bulb of the kind described in Specification 352,063. The projectors may be fitted with non-weather proof carriers for prismatic glasses or lenses adapted to control the lateral spread of the projected beams. The cabinets are preferably arranged below eye level, and, as shown in Fig. 3, they may be spaced in staggered relation along opposite sides of a road so as to project beams in the general direction of movement of traffic, the beam from each cabinet being of sufficient width to overlap that from an adjacent opposite cabinet not on the same axis.
