Checking and recording clocks.-An apparatus for checking the time of closure and locking of a receptacle for the reception of documents &c. comprises a clock-driven registering member and drive disconnecting means actuated automatically by the action of locking the receptacle without stopping the clockwork. The successive locking of a number of receptacles may be registered by providing a plurality of sets of members and disconnecting means. The apparatus as shown in Figs. 1 - - 4, is adapted to deal with four separate receptacles and comprises a box 1 with a lid 3 forming a chamber for the reception of the registering and locking members. Each side of the box is formed with undercut guides 4 for the reception of a metal frame 5 carried by each of the receptacles. The mouth of the frame is closed by a hinged plate 7 adapted to lie flush with the frame and pivoted to the frame is a locking member 11 adapted when the receptacle is attached to the apparatus to enter a corresponding aperture 43 in the lid and operate the locking mechanism. To the underside of the bottom 12 of the lid is attached a clockwork 13 the minute and hour spindles of which project into the lid chamber and carry gear wheels 16, 18 and time indicating pointers 17, 19 that cooperate with a fixed dial 21. The wheels 16, 18 are adapted to drive four sets of similar wheels 29, 30 and pointers 31, 32 carried on slides 24 forming drive disconnecting means. Each slide 24 is movable in a slot 23 and is normally urged towards the centre by means of a spring 28 surrounding a pin 27 passing through an. abutment plate 26. The abutment carries a pair of teeth 35 which serve to lock the wheels 29, 30, in position when in the disengaged position. The locking mechanism for each receptacle, operated by the member 11, comprises a rod 37 with a finger piece 41, a projection arm 36. and helical spring 42. The rod 37 is slidable through lugs 38, 39 and the finger piece extends through a slot in the bottom plate 12. The rod 37 is normally held retracted by a block 45 in a spring arm 46. When a receptacle is attached the member 1.1 depresses the block and the rod 37 under the action of the spring is projected to cause the rod to enter a hole in the member 11 and lock the receptacle to the box 1. At the same time the arm 36 engages the end of the slide 24 and disconnects the gears 29. 30. The lid 3 is locked to the box 1 bv the operation of a lever 50 having a finger piece 52 extending through a slot in the bottom of the box and provided with catchee 49 adapted to engage perforations in the lower end of arms 47 depending from the lid. The lever 50 is held in engaging position by a spring controlled rod 54 entering a hole in an extension 56 on the lever. The rod 54 carries a block 57 adjustable on the screw of the rod by rotating a milled head 58. Release of the lid to permit access to the interior is effected automatically by the action of the main spring 59 of the clockwork on the block 57 withdrawing the rod 54 from engagement with the extension 56.
