Abstract

498,609. Time - checking apparatus. BULLOUGH, F. July 15, 1937, No. 19593. [Class 106 (iv)] Means for checking the time of attachment of a closed receptacle to a frame member comprises clockwork carried on the frame and connected to time-indicating means by a pinion carried on a pivoted arm, the arm being automatically rocked at the time of attachment of the receptacle in a closed state to break the connection between the clockwork and the time-indicating means. The device is seen in front elevation in Fig. 4, and in side elevation in Fig. 8. The receptacle 1 has a top 2 shaped to engage rails 3 on a cover 4. The top also has a hinged lid 5 and a hinged keeper 7 which slides through a slot 9 in a frame or base member 10 on which most of the mechanism is carried. When the receptacle is attached (from the right in Fig. 8 and from the front in Fig. 4) the keeper 9 displaces a spring-held stop 41 from beneath the end 40 of a lever 29 pivoted at 30. The lever 29 is then rocked clockwise by a spring 35 to engage the end 40 with a hole in the keeper and thus to lock the receptacle to the device. The arm 29 also acts by means of a cam end 33 on an arm 22 to swing this arm clockwise to the position shown and so to disengage a pinion 20 pivoted on the arm 22 from a pinion 26. A shaft 16 is driven by clockwork and drives hour and minute hands. The pinion 20 on the arm 22 is always engaged with a pinion (not shown in Fig. 4) secured to the shaft 16. Before the attachment of the receptacle, the pinion 20 drives the pinion 26 which drives further hour and minute hands on its shaft 24. The attachment of the receptacle thus stops these further hands, the pinion 26 being locked by a pawl 37 rocked by the lever 29. Access to the shaft 30 to move it by hand to lift the lever 29 and release the receptacle can be had only when the cover 4 is removed. A latching bar is pivoted to the back of the cover and can be swung from outside the cover to engage notched members secured to the base 10. A pawl is pivoted to the latch and has a notch which engages a flange on a graduated wheel 51, Fig. 5, driven from the clockwork through a friction drive 48. The wheel 51 has a gap 54 in its flange and the latching bar can be swung to release the cover only when the pawl is in the gap 54. Thus the cover can be removed only at a certain predetermined time. The clockwork can be held stopped by a shaft 66 rotated anticlockwise from outside the casing to start the clockwork. When this is done, a pin 73 on a lever 74 falls into a notch 72 in a disc on the shaft 66 so that the clockwork cannot be stopped until the cover is removed to reset the lever 74. Specification 336,700, [Class 106 (iv)], is referred to.
