Abstract

517,608. Coin-freed locks. HEENAN, BEDDOW, and-STURMEY, Ltd., and HOGGINS, S. Aug. 13, 1938, No. 23910. [Class 27] Coin-freed lavatory door locks are provided with means whereby the follower or other part operated by the inside handle is locked against movement when the door is open, thus preventing the indicator being moved to "vacant" position inadvertently while the door is open, and remaining in that position when the door is closed subsequently. A slider C operated from. the outside of the door has a flange c to engage the coin D. The tail-piece e<2> of a rocker E is engaged by the coin so that the rocker is moved to actuate the indicator through the pin-andslot mechanism e'. The follower F, by means of which the main bolt is retracted from the inside of the door, carries a projection f engaging a projection b<1> on the bolt, and a second projection f<1> engaging the arm g of a rocker 'G which is spring-pressed at g' against the rocker E to retain the latter in its raised position. Retraction of the main bolt by the follower thus also operates the rocker G to release the rocker E and allow the indicator to fall. The abovementioned details are all of known construction. According to the invention an additional sliding latch H, Fig. 2 is provided, which has a pin- and-slot engagement with a sliding plate K normally engaging. a lug f<2> on the follower F and preventing the counter-clockwise rotation of the latter necessary to operate the indicator from the inside of the door. When the door is closed, this latch is retracted by the striking-plate on the door frame, and the rearward movement of pin h<1> lifts the sliding member K clear of the lug f<2>.
