Abstract

335,895. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Aktiebolaget Bofors). June 1, 1929. Loading-appliances. - In automatic loading devices for recoiling-barrel guns, the rear part only of the cartridge F, see plan Fig. 8, is supported by an arm P, the front part resting in the breech of the gun. In the form shown, the arm P is rockingly mounted on a shaft D carrying the rammer E, this shaft being rearwardly moved by the gun during recoil to the position shown in Fig. 6, where the shaft is held by a catch H to cock the loading spring G. The. support P is held rearwardly of the rammer E against the action of a spring Q within a casing d<9> by a catch p<5> engaging a movable stop S on a shaft M slidable with the rammer in a casing b<3>. The rammer E, spring mounted transversely in the rammer head D', is also retained in the retracted position shown by Fig. 5 by a catch K engaged by an arm m<1> on the shaft M. Towards the end of the run-out (Fig. 6), an incline a<5> on the gun engages an arm m<2> on the shaft M and rocks the shaft to release simultaneously the catch K retaining the pusher E and the catch p<5> retaining the support P. The support P then moves towards the rammer, and by means of a cam groove d<11> is rotated from the position shown in Fig. 4, in which it leaves a clear passage for the ejection of the spent case, to the position shown in Fig. 8, where it is ready to support a cartridge with the rammer E behind the base thereof. On operating the handle H<2> to release the catch H, the rammer pushes the cartridge into the gun, the rammer passing through a gap a<2> in the breech whilst the support P is stopped by the rear of the gun to cock the spring Q and cause the cam slot d<11> to rotate the support clear of the breech. The breech is then automatically closed, the wedge breech-block C engaging the rammer E to return it against the catch k. Specification 3790/03 is referred to.
