Abstract
334,902. Fairweather, D. A. W., Thomas, J., and Scottish Dyes, Ltd. March 7, 1929. Anthraquinoncazines.-Sulphuric esters, which appear to be tetrasulphuric esters of tetrahydrodianthraquinoneazines, are obtained by submitting a disulphuric ester of 2-aminoanthrahydroquinone or a substitution product thereof having the 1- position free, to oxidation in the presence of an alkali, and isolating the product without allowing the medium to become substantially acid. The isolation may be effected by salting out, for example with potassium chloride, or by evaporation. The products may be obtained in a substantially pure state by fractional isolation, and may be further purified by means of solvents, such as methyl or ethyl alcohols, to dissolve out the impurities. The preparation and purification of the tetrasulphuric esters obtained by oxidizing with alkaline solutions of hypochlorites the sodium or potassium salts of 2-aminoanthrahydroquinone-9 : 10-disulphuric acid ester and of 2- amino - 3 - chloranthrahydroquinone - 9 : 10-disulphuric acid ester is described in examples, while further examples describe the use of the products in dyeing or printing cotton or wool (claimed in Specification 334,921).
