Abstract

334,370. Winship, E. Aug. 23, 1929. Ink.-A quick-drying ink, particularly for use in intaglio printing, comprises a homogeneous mixture of water, a solution of an asphaltic base in a hydrocarbon, and a pigment. The asphalt, preferably gilsonite, is heated in a closed vessel to a temperature of about 210‹ F. and at a pressure of about 70 lbs. per square inch with a petroleum distillate coming over between 310‹ and 412‹ F. or between 251‹ and 390‹ F., or with coal tar distillate coming over between 140‹ and 170‹ F. The resulting syrup is heated under pressure with a filtered solution of glue in water, prepared under heat and pressure, and pigment is then incorporated by grinding. Alternatively, the ink may be prepared by heating all the ingredients together under pressure.
