Abstract
333,278. Fenner & Co., Ltd., J. H., and Hainsworth, S. B. May 8, 1929. Multiple fabrics for belting &c. are woven with raised portions enclosing on all.sides other portions, which are depressed to form suction cups &c. on the driving face of the belt, the width of these cups &c. being equal to at least two warp threads. In one form, the warp is brought to the surface along the lines 1 - - 4, Fig. 1, whilst intermediately warp threads 5 to 8 are depressed below the surface at points 9 - - 12 to form suction pockets wholly enclosed by facing warp on all sides. In a modification, thick wefts 13. Fig. 5, and thick warps or braids are inserted at spaced intervals under the top ply, which is bound to the other plies at spots between pairs of the thick warps and wefts, whereby pockets 14 are formed.
