Abstract
458,804. Mats. NUWAY MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and WRAY, J. H., Coalport, Shropshire. June 28, 1935, No. 18593. [Class 142 (iv)] A mat built up of interlocked transverse and longitudinal strips has strips, such as 2, of greater height than width and having spaced pairs of recesses 5 in their upper and lower edges, these strips being passed side uppermost through corresponding slots 3 in the strips 1 extending in the other direction, and then turned upright. The strips 1 are cut in the planes of the upper and lower sides of the slots 3 to form tongues 4, which are deflected during the passage of the recessed strips 2, and return to alignment when the recessed strips are turned upright. Both sets of strips may extend from side to side of the mat, or one set may consist of chain links. Some of the strips of both sets may have spaced single recesses, recesses in one set corresponding to those in the other set. The strips may have arched upper surfaces, associated if desired with arched lower surfaces or transverse cavities, to give resilient tread portions. In the mat the strips of a set need not be parallel, and may be sinuous. The strips may be of rubber, rubber and rubberized fabric, leather, fibre or other material.
