Abstract

332,218. Willat, A. F. April 16, 1929. Apparatus for automatically taking up slack of conductors; attachments for preventing tangling or kinking of flexible conductors.-In order to prevent the entangling of flexible electric conductors, such as telephone leads, they are carried within a spring device formed from a single piece of resilient wire bent to include a series of spaced clips adapted to grip the conductors, the wire thus bent being further bent into a resilient zig-zag formation. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the device comprises annular clips 1 formed with openings 2 and connected by straight wire portions 3, the wire thus formed being bent into either of the spring shapes shown in Figs. 1 and 5. The conductor is attached to the device by forcing it into the clips through the openings 2, Fig. 3, which are of less width than the diameter of the conductor. In a modified construction, shown in Fig. 2, the gripping of the conductor is effected by hook portions 5 arranged alternately on opposite sides of the conductor 4 and joined by helical wire portions 6.
