[Class 36] An extensible cable comprises a conductor-supporting carrier of inextensible material and an elastic cord which are connected together at their ends and are held in contact with each other at a number of points along their lengths so that the elastic cord tends to draw the carrier into pleats. The connections between the elastic cord and carrier are such that the two may be readily separated to permit renewal of the elastic cord. The elastic cord may be of rubber, or may consist of a metallic spring. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 5, insulated conductors 1 are enclosed in a braided or woven carrier 2 which is provided along its length, preferably along its centre line, with regularly spaced slits 3. The strip is folded between the slits so that the latter are in line and an elastic cord 4, which consists of rubber strands enclosed in an extensible woven or braided sheath, is passed through the slits, the ends of the cord being then secured to the carrier by bindings 6. The length or the cord 4 is preferably such that the folds of the carrier are pressed one against the other when the cord is unstretched.
