332,208. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenin. dustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 15, 1929. Azo dyes: azo dyes, forming on the material.- Azo dyes insoluble in water are made in substance on the fibre, or on a substratum by coupling a diazotized o-aminobenzophenone or a derivative thereof containing no sulpho-, carboxy- or nitrogroup with a coupling component e.g. arylides of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid or diacetoacetic arylides. They are fast to bucking, chlorine and light. In examples the following dyestuffs are made. on the fibre (1) o-aminobenzophenone # diacetoacetico-tolidide or 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid alpha-naphthalide; (2) 4<1>-methyl-2-aminodiphenylketone # diacetoacetic-o-tolidide; (3) 4-chlor-2-aminobenzophenone ->- 2-oxy-3-naphthoic acid-4<1>-chloro- 2<1>-toluidide; and (4) the dyestuff o-aminobenzophenone # 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic' acid anilide is made in substance. 4-Chlor-2-aminobenzophenone is made from 4- chloro - 2 - (p-toluenesulphon-)amino - 1-benzoyl chloride, benzene and aluminium chloride, and the product saponified. 4-Chlor - 2-(p-toluenesulphon-)-amino-2-benzoylchloride is made from 4-chlor-2-aminobenzoic acid and p-toluenesulphonchloride and then with thionylchloride. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 6379/12 ; 17279/13, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], 210,217 and 279,146.
