Liquid-meters. - In apparatus comprising a pair of measuring containers, a pump, and a changeover mechanism operated by an increase in liquid pressure due to the filling of a container, premature changing-over due to excessive pressure is prevented by a further pressure-responsive member. The pump 2 fills the containers alternately by way of the passages 6, 8, 9 and chamber 7. Excessive pressure, produced for example by obstructing the discharge nozzle in an attempt to throw-over the valvemechanism, is transmitted from a bridge-space over the containers by way of a tube 7<a> to the chamber 7 and thence through pipe 10 to a spring-pressed valve 13. On the opening of this valve the pump circulation is in communication with the drain pipe 4 by way of the port 12, while the valve stem 14 lifts the ball-valve 16 so connecting the suction side of the pump with the pipe 4 by way of the pipe 21. In a modification the excessive pressure acts on a diaphragm in the base of the chamber 7 putting the suction side of the pump into connection with the air in the system, and also depresses a ball-valve opening a passage to the drain-pipe 4. A gauge filter may surround the lower part of the tube 8. Specifications 272,985, 287,589, 297,698, and 309,006 are referred to.
