Abstract

330,844. Baker & Co. (Rotherham), 1920, Ltd., J., and Baker, S. E. Sept. 27,1929. Wheel and tyre heating furnaces; charging and discharging.-In a furnace, for heating a vertical stack of tyres or other metal rings, of the kind in which the finished tyres are removed one at a time from the top of the stack E the height of which is maintained by the introduction of a fresh tyre at the lower end, the stack is supported by a single set of supports and the furnace is fired by horizontal gas, oil, or pulverized-fuel burners G arranged tangentially above the uppermost tyre. The supports may comprise either equally spaced bars C provided with hinged tips C' which yield only in the upward direction, or sliding bars D operated by a lever D<1>. The fresh tyres are fed into the furnace by an hydraulic ram A formed with spaced supports B, and a doorway H is provided at the level of the top of the stack E for the removal of the finished tyres.
