330,215. Thomas, J., Fairweather, D. A. W., and Scottish Dyes, Ltd. Nov. 27, 1928. Acylaminoanthraquinones, alkyl ethers of leuco compounds of.-Acylaminoanthraquinones are treated with acid reducing agents, for example, zinc and an acid, preferably acetic acid, and preferably in an alcoholic medium, and the intermediate product thus formed is etherified with or without first isolation to give the 9 : 10-dialkyl ethers of the acylaminoanthrahydroquinones. Alkylation may be effected by means of a dialkylsulphate or a p-toluene sulphonic acid ester, and reduction may take place in an atmosphere of nitrogen as in the examples, which describe the preparation of the 9 : 10-dimethyl ethers of 1- and 2-acetylaminoanthrahydroquinone, 2-benzoylaminoanthrahydroquinone, 1-chloro- and 3-chloro- 2-acetylaminoanthrahydroquinone. The corresponding ethyl and propyl ethers are mentioned. Specification 297,042 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers to the treatment of vat dyestuffs and intermediates generally.
