Abstract

330,137. Teece, S. H. June 4, 1929. Variable - speed ratchet gearing comprises variable driving eccentrics with inner and outer eccentric parts 3, 4. Fig. 2, connected by helical threads 11 and grooves 10. The outer eccentrics 4 move together axially, and a spring 16 encircling the driving-shaft 2 tends to hold them in the position of maximum throw. The load tends to diminish the throw and compress the spring 16 so that there is automatic adjustment of the speed of a driven shaft 9 to suit the load upon it. Manual control may be superposed by a lever 21. Guides 26 are provided for connecting-rods 7 to allow the eccentrics 4 to slide through them. Ratchets 28 driving the shaft 9 are preferably in pairs as shown. When reversed drive is required, a clutch 41, Fig. 4, connecting two parts 9<a>, 9<b> of the shaft 9 is disconnected, and the gear and clutch 43, 41 is moved so that the drive passes through train 43, 46, 48, 49, 52.
