Abstract

Ball-and-socket joints ; with valves.-The flow of fluids &c. through an assembly of glass tubes having their adjacent ends ground to a concave and convex formation and held together by a clamp &c. is controlled by a bored element which is interposed between two of the tubes and is formed with ends complementarv to the ends of the said tubes. As shown in Fig. 1 a regulating element C having two longitudinal passages c<1>, c<2>, one or both of which communicates with the bore e of an inlet or outlet branch c, is interposed between two glass tubes D, D<1> so that relative rotation of the tubes D, D<1> and the element C may bring one or both of the passages d<3>, d<4> of the tubes D, D<1> into partial or complete alignment with one of the bores c<1>, c<2>. A modified form of regulating element j interposed between a tube i and a junction h is shown in Fig. 6.
