[Also in Group XIII] A pipe-line structure 1 for carrying viscous liquids has heating means comprising one or more lines of gutter-shaped elements 2 the longitudinal edges of which are welded at 5 to the outer wall of the pipe-line to form a channel 6 for conducting a heating fluid, the whole of the elements covering only a portion of the periphery of the pipe-line. The elements 2 may be angle- or channel-irons. Where a joint 8, Fig. 7, occurs in the pipe-line the elements 2a, 2b stop short of the joint and are connected by a rectangular-section junction-piece 10 of equal cross-sectional area to the channel 6 and by flanges 9a, 9b welded to the elements. Where two or more lines of elements are provided, they may be in communication or independent ; in the latter case the heating effect is controlled by varying the number of lines in use.
