Coat and like hangers.-A collapsable hanger comprises pairs of arms which are capable of telescoping and of pivoting so that the hanger may assume the form shown in Fig. 5 in the closed up position. The arms are made up of casings 16, 17, Figs. 1 and 5, with sliding extensions 37, 38, and a bridgepiece 15 carrying the casings on pivots 27, 28. The hook 25 is mounted on the bridge-piece which is U-shaped and has lugs 21, 22 to confine it. The hook is cranked to pass through from one wall of the bridge-piece to the other. The casings are of mutilated rectangular section, as shown in Fig. 11, ledges 33 serving for the U-shaped extension arms 37, 38 to'slide on. These arms are limited in their outward movement by inclined surfaces 36 on the casings which meet correspondingly shaped surfaces on the inner end of the arms. A sliding frictional grip between the casings and arms is obtained by notching the arms at 43 .and splaying ouwardly the ends 44 to provide a spring grip. In a modification, an additional notch is cut in the inner end of each arm to enable it to be splayed also in a direction at right angles to the other splaying.
