Abstract

328,818. Deseniss, M., and Nielsen, A. May 16, 1929. Indiarubber, chlorinating, devulcanizing. -- The chlorination of rubber in solution or dispersion is carried out at a temperature of 80‹ C. or over. Preferably raw rubber is dissolved or vulcanized rubber is dispersed in carbon tetrachloride at about boiling point, and chlorine is introduced in a reflux condenser, until no more hydrochloric acid is formed. In the case of vulcanized rubber, the whole of the sulphur is eliminated as sulphur chloride. The product may be made into films, filaments &c., which mav be modified by the introduction of softeners, dyes, &c.
