Sliding vehicle-window opening and closing apparatus.-The actuating means of two or more vehicle windows are situated near together so as to minimize disturbance of passengers &c. when operating the windows. The invention is illustrated as applied to a restaurant car in which the actuating shafts k for pairs of windows are housed one above the other in the back rests between two seats and adapted to be rotated by a detachable handle by an attendant in the gangway d. The windows are balanced by springs and lever and raised &c. by a chain with a turnbuckle tensioning device m.
