400,377. Friction grips. PERANNE, J. B. A. E., 6B, Station Parade, Kingsbury Road, Kingsbury, and EGGLETON, I. E., (trading as HARP ENGINEERING CO.), Harp Works, Stanley Road, Hendon, both in London. July 26, 1932, No. 21082. [Class 44.] Gripping means for retaining in any position a sliding hatch or panel of a vehicle roof comprises two spring-controlled rods 8 guided on a baseplate 1 and pivoted at their outer ends 13 to levers 10 which are of the shape shown and adapted to engage the side channel guides of the sliding panel. The levers 10 may be provided with a pin 15 and a hook part 14 adapted when the rods 8 move inwardly under the stress of the springs to grip the upper flange of the channel guides. Double cams 5 arranged on a spindle 4 at the centre are adapted by means of a knob 6 to press the levers 8 outwardly to release the fastening. Or the pin 15 may be replaced by a hook part 16, Fig. 5, which engages a flange on the channel guide which flange extends inwardly. Vibration &c. of the vehicle tends to effect a firmer fastening under the stress of the springs.
