Desk and table sets; supporting.-In a telephone instrument, the contents of which are operated by the weight of a hand micro-telephone on a movable platform, the ends of the platform are prevented from turning bv guides projecting into open recesses in the forked ends of the cradle support. The crade 3, Fig. 1, is secured by screws to the casing 2, the screws also securing the tubular casting 5 which carries a plate 6, on which the terminals and contact springs are mounted. The spindle 7, which carries the platform 8, is journaled in the casting 5 and operates the contact springs 15, being fitted with a light compression spring 10; the lower end of the spindle is formed as an insulating cam. The platform 8, which may be of insulating material, has its ends bent at right-angles to its length to form guides sliding freely in open grooves or recesses 9, Fig. 2, in the ends of the cradle. A removable pin 13 in the spindle 7 limits the travel of the platform when the telephone is removed so as to prevent the guides disengaging from the grooves 9. The platform is made wider than the hole for the spindle, thus preventing the entry of dust inside the casing 2. For instruments used in automatic telephone systems the dial is fixed to the mounting 14, Fig. 3.
