327,533. Thompson (Dudley), Ltd., J., and Arnold, A. A. March 4, 1929. Troughs for endless conveyers; guards and shields to prevent falling- off and spilling.-In conveying apparatus having a belt 1 adapted to pass through a trough or well 6 containing liquid, a wall 17, 18 is provided at or near one or both longitudinal edges of the belt which wall or walls is or are adapted to bear on the surface of the belt in order to prevent the articles or materials conveyed from passing off the belt over its longitudinal edges. The lower edges of the walls are provided with flexible flaps 19. The walls are supported by channel-section members 22 attached to the walls of the trough. Scrapers 25 are located in the trough below the belt and are moved backward and forwards by winch mechanism in order to remove from the trough any material which may collect on its bottom.
