1,141,930. Material discharging from vehicles; endless conveyers; discharging hoppers. CHARROLD Ltd. 17 Jan., 1968 [18 Jan., 1967], No. 2725/67. Headings B8A, B8E and B8S. Means for discharging material from a vehicle (not shown) or other bulk material container 1 comprises an endless conveyer with spaced parallel flights 17 secured between two endless chains 16, each passing around a group of four coplanar sprockets 15. Two of each group of sprockets 15 are mounted on fixed shafts 10, 11 while the other two are mounted on sprockets 13, 14 carried on a pair of spaced arms 12 pivoted on the shafts 10, 11. With the frame arms 12 in a horizontal position the chains 16 and flights 17 provide a straight conveyer (broken lines) and is the position when the container 1 is full of material. The container 1 is discharged by the conveyer being driven so that the flights 17 on the lower run move over the top surface of the material to push or carry surface material towards outlet 3. As the discharge proceeds the frame arms 12 are caused to pivot downwards while remaining parallel to each other, whereby the chains follow a progressively variable parallelogram path. Finally, the frame arms 12 engage the floor of the container 1 and the flights 17 on the lower run scrape the floor (full lines). The container 1 may be incorporated in a static installation (not shown). The discharge means can be made to operate in a horizontal or a vertical position and the conveyer may be a bucket or flighted belt conveyer (not shown).
